Secondary Glazing FAQ’s

Does Secondary Glazing actually work?

Secondary glazing is an excellent, cost effective way of reducing the amount of external noise entering your home through your current windows. This simple and cost-effective treatment can increase sound insulation. This means your home will be quieter and you will sleep more peacefully. In other words, yes, it does work! Secondary glazing is also extremely effective for thermal retention and draught exclusion.

Does Secondary Glazing add value to my house?

Secondary glazing can greatly increase your home's value. If your home is older and not performing well, it may be worth considering investing in new glazing options. This will increase its appeal to potential buyers as well as allow it to sell at a higher price. Selling a property that is quiet and warm adds to the appeal.

If my Secondary Glazing breaks, who can fix it?

The Glazier who installed your secondary glazing should have a well-documented warranty on their work. Meaning they should be able to fix it for you. We here at City Sound proud ourselves on our craftmanship as well as the quality of our products, if any problems arise, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Secondary Glazing for Listed Buildings Charing Cross

A building listed under the law is protected and Listed Building Permission may need to be obtained before any modifications can be made. Not all repairs will require consent. Please get in touch with your local authority and make enquiries as to whether you need permission to install secondary glazing.

Sash Windows (Vertical sliding) Charing Cross

Sash windows, also known as “Vertical sliding windows”, are the most popular window type. Secondary glazing sash windows are also very popular.

Our sash windows consist of two panels, one at the top and one at the bottom. They are counter balanced with pre-tensioned springs that hold the panels’ weight. The window can be opened in any direction and the panels can be operated easily.

Horizontal Sliding Windows Charing Cross

Horizontal sliding windows, which can be made side to side, are the most versatile style. They can be manufactured with either 2, 3, or 4 sliding panels. This type of secondary glazing matches perfectly with Crittal windows. Individual sliding panels can slide effortlessly, providing unimpeded access to external windows.

All of our windows sections are made from aluminium and powder-coated white. You can customize frames to match your decor with a different colour or finish.

Fixed Lift Out Charing Cross

Fixed lift out windows are an alternative to screw-fixed units. They have a removable glass panel that can be lifted from the master frame and accessed through the external windows.

This type of window is used for external windows that are rarely used, or in offices with air conditioning where cleaning between windows is necessary.

Casement (Hinged) Secondary Glazing Charing Cross

Our hinged (casement) windows can be side- or top-hung. This design allows easy access to outer windows or doors.

This type of window is popular in hospitals, surgery rooms, and laboratories because it has minimal dust ledges, tight seals, and is easy to clean.

Trafalgar Square is a public square in central London. The site is a significant landmark. The Square's name commemorates the Battle of Trafalgar. The Nelson's Column, Lion Sculptures and Fountains are the most popular attractions at the square. The square is a place for community gatherings and political demonstrations. It’s a place of relaxed atmosphere in the late afternoon.

Ah, the iconic landmark; the pigeons and statues; the somewhat notorious fifth plinth. This is a place which truly illustrates the heart of London and England. With the modern street performers meeting the historic monuments, it's a sign of the times and a glimpse into a microcosm of modernity.

Beautiful square. It was pretty busy when we went due to construction and several protests, but we were able to still see the fountains and get a small bit of appreciation of it all. It’s quite a lovely part of the city, so you could spend a while here people watching.

RIP OFF!!! Don't be fooled by the advertising, we bought for 6 people 3 weeks in advance, to be told on the day that so many of the attractions were closed or simply "unavailable" to pass holders. Disgusted and bitterly disappointed. Save your money and buy attraction tickets in advance instead of the pass.

This pass was honestly very frustrating to use during Covid. I do NOT recommend it. We weren’t able to experience many of the attractions because they had a timed entry and each location gives priority to their own ticket sales over the London Pass. We also had minuscule savings so it didn’t even make the pass worth it. I would have rather pre-booked timed entry tickets for our trip so we could have guaranteed entrance. VERY disappointed. Additionally, we didn’t notice that one location required that we send an email to The London Pass for an entry date. This happened to 3 other families while we sat there trying to get into the location. So, the museum turned away about 20 people that had a London pass because they made the same mistake I did in not reading the fine print. I emailed them to schedule another day to visit… but they NEVER responded. So unprofessional.

Bought the 5 day London Pass for myself and 2 daughters along with the Oyster travel card. What a fantastic purchase !! We visted 16 London attractions - I planned our entire itinerary around this, and visited venues which we wouldn't even have known about.Fantastic for sight seeing and making fabulous savings. It cost me £252 but without it, it would have cost £590 !! Having the London Pass was like holding a golden ticket, as it allowed fast pass entrance to venue entrances by just showing it. My tip - contact the venue prior to going, suggest an entrance time and present the return email with the pass - it worked brilliantly for us and helped in organizing our trip. Fantastic on-line chat too for any queries relating to the pass. Brilliant purchase and highly recommended... happy sight-seeing everyone 😃 a definate must have for any sight seeing visitors to London.

The victorian replacement for the original Eleanor Cross that stood on the south side of Trafalgar Square to mark the place where the body of Queen Eleanor was halted on its journey to Westminster Abbey. Somewhat lost in the forecourt to the station it does not give the much room for reflection.

Ch`ere reine . "Dear Queen" is the basis of the modern name Charing cross...the monument, once a great wooden cross, is one of thirteen, and was created to mark the places where King Edward the firsts , Queen, Eleanor's, body rested before her funeral at Westminster Abbey. All distance measurements to London are based on Charring cross.

Amazing museum! I love the Tube and so I was very interested in the history of it. The displays are very good and has amazing facts. They have a train simulator on the ground floor, but it takes a long time to do, so the queue can be quite big. Would recommend. Also the shop is great, where you can by pillows with the seat cover patterns and other souvenirs.

Fun place to go for both adults and children. The museum's collection on the transport system is fascinating, lots of interesting facts to read. There are also themed play areas for the little ones. My 20 months old son had a great time exploring. You can bring your own food and sit in the dedicated areas to have lunch inside - very handy for those who have children! It is also clean inside, you can see the staff regularly wiping the surfaces. If you are looking for a day out especially with kids, I certainly recommend the London Transport Museum.

Amazing place. Had fun exploring the museum. Hygienic and polite staff. My lil one had great time. He loved the idea of driving his bus..A must visit place to learn about more than a century old transportation. You won't be disappointed. 1 less star for the food. Not that great.

Very well maintained. A marvellous collection. Grand and majestic works of art. Excellently organized according to time periods, nations and art movements. There are benches and sofas for you to sit and rest awhile in every hall and room. I went on a Saturday and it was packed with people. I guess weekdays will be a better time to visit.

One of London's most famous museums and one you cannot (and should not) miss, the National Gallery is beautiful inside and out and will serve you with a perfect dose of art and culture during your trip. Its artworks span centuries so there will be something here for everyone, no matter your taste. I recommend paying a visit to this iconic museum at least once.

Fantastic visit. It is so much quieter so you are able to absorb far more. The guides are fantastic too and have time to explain far more and interact more. Alan was brilliant. Do go and enjoy this beautiful space and the national treasures. Its a good 3 hour visit with a fantastic cafe too.

We picked up our tickets and straight away went on the hoping-hop off bus. We were not warned about the protests and road closures before we got on. The bus ended up stuck in grid-lock and going around in circles- by the time we went past Victoria station for the third time and were told that we would be heading to Marble Arch and Euston Road we got off and took the tube instead. The next day we went on the London Eye- the info tells you that there is no need to book and you get on straight away- not that you have to get your tickets first and line up with everyone else. Hopefully our third attraction will go better but I’m not holding my breath.

Because of this sweet deal we were able to save a lot of money by using the 5 attraction pass. We have used several passes like these for other cities and they seem to be one of the best ways to see the sights for a fraction of the cost.

Although I spent a long time living in London, this is the first time I bought this particular ticket. Thus time I came as a tourist with my wife. Bus and train to London, including all 6 zones of the underground and bus lines included. Probably the best value for money if you like to get about easily.

Went to see Billionaire Boy, absolutely amazing and funny! Seating areas were clean and well maintained. Staff were super friendly. Process of entering was very swift and we didn’t have to queue for long. One thing they sadly didn’t have was much of a variety of Billionaire Boy merchandise.

The Garrick is a wonderful theatre. I have seen many plays there and while it isn't as well known or regarded as other major West End theatres it does have a truly beautiful interior which is extremely charming. It's a cool space, quite intimate and you are never too far from the stage.

I went today with my sister and a best friend and was so lucky to get in. We were privileged to be taken round the museum by Neil. It was absolutely fascinating. Neil knew so much and was a fountain of knowledge and very amusing with lots of antidotes to keep us entertained. It was brilliant and I learnt so much. I definitely recommend a visit you wont be disappointed

A sight to see in London. It is a heaven for puns and wordplay - but if you have an interest in the eye and the history of optometry this is the place to have a look at. I suggest you book the guided tour as the exhibit is very dense and you can easy overlook something. Remember to call in advance to book a tour.

We had a wonderful meal in the restaurant last week. The ambience was happy and peaceful. Renata was serving us and she made our dinners for the whole evening full of joy and delight. Her sweet welcoming smile coupled with very attentive service will definitely smooth your day’s hard work. For a place that offers a very tasty 3-course meal in central London and it’s not expensive, worth recommending and re-visits. Thank you.

Booked this hotel as part of a package, so wasn't expecting great things. Wow, how wrong was I? We arrived early, it is located right outside the main entrance to Charing Cross, how easy is that to find? Andrea checked us in and we felt a bit out of place in our jeans and T shirts, but were made to feel welcome. Another bonus is that you are given a token each to spend in the bar, a nice tough given London prices!! The hotel was clean and warm, the lifts shiny and spotless. The room was well presented, clean and comfy with monsoon shower head and even some sweets left on the table. Complimentary mini bar (non alcoholic) is another nice touch that others could do with copying. Breakfast was a buffet and the selection was good. Cereals, fruit juices and traditional English too! The only things that stopped me giving 5 stars, and I am nit picking really is that a) We were not told the bar was shut (and is for 10 days) when checking in, in fact, were were encouraged to visit. You can sit in the restaurant, but it isn't the same. b) The doorbell that is fitted to the room is not on a spring button, but on a on/ off. We didn't know about this and upon putting the card in the slot, this siren sounded and scared the life out of us. We had to go back to reception and when maintenance turned up, we felt like a right pair of lemons!!
