Secondary Glazing FAQ’s

Does Secondary Glazing actually work?

Secondary glazing is an excellent, cost effective way of reducing the amount of external noise entering your home through your current windows. This simple and cost-effective treatment can increase sound insulation. This means your home will be quieter and you will sleep more peacefully. In other words, yes, it does work! Secondary glazing is also extremely effective for thermal retention and draught exclusion.

Does Secondary Glazing add value to my house?

Secondary glazing can greatly increase your home's value. If your home is older and not performing well, it may be worth considering investing in new glazing options. This will increase its appeal to potential buyers as well as allow it to sell at a higher price. Selling a property that is quiet and warm adds to the appeal.

If my Secondary Glazing breaks, who can fix it?

The Glazier who installed your secondary glazing should have a well-documented warranty on their work. Meaning they should be able to fix it for you. We here at City Sound proud ourselves on our craftmanship as well as the quality of our products, if any problems arise, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Secondary Glazing for Listed Buildings Aldgate

A building listed under the law is protected and Listed Building Permission may need to be obtained before any modifications can be made. Not all repairs will require consent. Please get in touch with your local authority and make enquiries as to whether you need permission to install secondary glazing.

Sash Windows (Vertical sliding) Aldgate

Sash windows, also known as “Vertical sliding windows”, are the most popular window type. Secondary glazing sash windows are also very popular.

Our sash windows consist of two panels, one at the top and one at the bottom. They are counter balanced with pre-tensioned springs that hold the panels’ weight. The window can be opened in any direction and the panels can be operated easily.

Horizontal Sliding Windows Aldgate

Horizontal sliding windows, which can be made side to side, are the most versatile style. They can be manufactured with either 2, 3, or 4 sliding panels. This type of secondary glazing matches perfectly with Crittal windows. Individual sliding panels can slide effortlessly, providing unimpeded access to external windows.

All of our windows sections are made from aluminium and powder-coated white. You can customize frames to match your decor with a different colour or finish.

Fixed Lift Out Aldgate

Fixed lift out windows are an alternative to screw-fixed units. They have a removable glass panel that can be lifted from the master frame and accessed through the external windows.

This type of window is used for external windows that are rarely used, or in offices with air conditioning where cleaning between windows is necessary.

Casement (Hinged) Secondary Glazing Aldgate

Our hinged (casement) windows can be side- or top-hung. This design allows easy access to outer windows or doors.

This type of window is popular in hospitals, surgery rooms, and laboratories because it has minimal dust ledges, tight seals, and is easy to clean.

A great place to sit and watch the world go by. We spent a nice hour waiting for our appointment. Nice to sit and think or even just to sit...

One of my favourite stops on the way home. There are fountains and grass. In the summer kids love it, great place to cool down and play in the water.

Lovely area for you to sit down and relax. Although I would confess can be busy as lots of office workers come here to have their lunch. There are also some people skateboarding which is nice to see, as often they are talented. There is also a nice water fountain which helps de-stress if that helps you unwind.

Visiting from California and had a reservation for the Sky Garden bar and it was truly an amazing experience. The view of London at night was spectacular! My waiter Jasmin was simply AMAZING. He was so helpful, super kind, friendly, gave great drink suggestions which helped cause there was over 150 different cocktail recipes. Jasmin definitely made the whole experience that much better! 10/10 highly recommend this spot if you are visiting and make sure to ask to sit in Jasmin’s area cause he will truly make your experience there that much better!

What an amazing place. We booked a free visit for a week day lunch time. It really exceeded expectations. The views are stunning, the atmosphere is amazing. The bar food is really good. It's an oasis of peace right in the middle of the City. It was busy but there was still plenty of room. Such a relaxing place for a drink and meal. Highly recommended!

An amazing view all around. Good party atmosphere on a Friday night with a live band. Renata was very helpful and friendly. Yes it's a little pricey but you have the best view in town. Worth a visit as a one off.

The Gherkin, otherwise known as 30 St Mary Axe, is one of the capital's most famous buildings. It's a feature of the London skyline and home to offices, a restaurant and a cocktail bar. Very interesting design of buildings, not the only one in this area. The Gherkin is 180 metres (591 ft) tall. Towering 41 floors above the City of London, The Gherkin looks magnificent at any time of the day, but it’s particularly dazzling when lit up at night. Not far away from Sky garden, recommend to visit and enjoy the area. The Gherkin isn’t normally open to the public but you can visit Helix restaurant and Iris bar, which are located on the top floors and have amazing panoramic views across the City of London.

30 St. Mary Axe or "The Gherkin" as it's famously called, is an extremely different in design, which makes it a great location for phoro shoots. Many tourists come here to get photos captured with the extravagant building. I luckily live near the building and always found it out of the world.

A gem in the City, pretty much unchanged visually for a hundred years. A mix of retail and dining outlets line the arcade, but the real reason to visit is the stunning roof. An essential stop if you're visiting the City of London as a tourist, forming a stark contrast to the modern steel and glass towers that surround it.

I’ve been to London many times and have never visited this little gem. Refurbished historical location, offering a range of shops and restaurants - it was lovely. A popular place for local workers to grab lunch so it was busy, but I’ll be going back again to have a thorough explore in the future - it’ll be worth the time.

Found it very intriguing, and the art work was amazing and had hidden art inside the painting but had to look hard to spot them, so it kept it us busy for the duration of the visit. Would definitely visit again.

Love going here. Another great venue with free and ticketed displays. Always great exhibitions. Will come again and again. Also worth mentioning the bookshop is worth scheduling some extra time for browsing, bought many Christmas presents there and will come again.

Tucked away behind the shopping and ticket shops, this piece of history deserves greater visibility. Good for views of the Wester side of the Tower complex. There many named Towers as well as the better known single Tower of London.

One of the few places in London you can find a segment of the original London wall that surrounded the city. This piece is huge and you get an idea of the scale of the wall. It’s easy to find, right by the tower exit of Tower Hill station. There’s a little garden area and a few information panels giving the history. Just a short walk from here is the Tower of London.

This is a beautiful hidden spot in London. ‘St Dunstan in the east’ is haft way between Tower of London and London Bridge. Walkable to Monument station. This church was ruined in the second world war. You can come to read or have a little picnic. I’ve seen some people come and sit to have lunch break. Great city oasis.
